The Children’s Literature Program at UNC Charlotte dates back to the early 1970s when Dr. Glenn Burne served as the Chair of the Department. Dr. Burne pioneered the teaching of children’s literature courses within a department of English. Since then, UNC Charlotte’s Children’s Literature Program has built a reputation as one of the leading children’s literature programs in the English-speaking world. The program offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate level courses in children’s and young adult literature. The Department offers a graduate concentration in children’s literature as part of its master’s program, and it sponsors an interdisciplinary minor in Children’s Literature and Childhood Studies. The faculty members are published scholars in the field of children’s literature and childhood studies. The students in the program are also engaged in exciting programs and projects, many of which are sponsored by the Children’s Literature Graduate Student Organization.
